The Vilnius State Choir (artistic director and principal conductor Professor Povilas Gylys) is one of the most outstanding and renowned professional choirs in Lithuania. Since its establishment in 1970, it has appeared at numerous music festivals, state events and song festivals, implemented many educational programmes and cultural projects, and won a number of international competitions. Together with Lithuanian performers, the choir gives over 50 concerts per year at home and abroad. Eagerly awaited in foreign countries, it has successfully represented Lithuanian choral art in Switzerland, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Holland, Spain, Georgia and Cuba.

Over the years of its existence, the Vilnius State Choir has recorded 16 CDs and performed over 1,200 large-scale compositions and a capella works, including some of the most important scores by West European composers, examples of sacred and secular music, challenging contemporary choral compositions, light classical genres, and music by Lithuanian composers that occupies an exlusive place in the choir's repertoire.

In 2010, the choir started a new stage in its artistic life: on 1 March it was named the state choir.
