The origins of Vilnius choir singing school "Liepaitės" reach 1963, when young choir leaders Liucija Palinauskaitė and Petras Vailionis founded girls choir singing group "Liepaitės" at the Republican Trade Union Palace of Culture. Since 1964 the choir has been actively performing and in next three decades became widely known. Owning to efforts of the longtime leader of the group, later the headmaster of the school P. Vailionis (leading the school until 2009) in December 1992 the choir singing group was reorganized and Vilnius choir singing school "Liepaitės" established. The first edict of the headmaster is dated 4th of January 1993, with it the personnel was brought together, the structure of the school created. Since 2009 the headmistress of the school is Edita Jaraminienė.

Vilnius choir singing school "Liepaitės" firmly took root in cultural life of Lithuania. "Liepaitės" performs in biggest concert halls, choir’s voices are conducted by the most celebrated conductors of Lithuania J. Domarkas, S. Sondeckis, G. Rinkevičius, R. Šervenikas, M. Pitrėnas, M. Staškus. Choirs have broad repertoire - from Lithuanian folklore songs to large-scale works with an orchestra. Concert tour routes are widely spread throughout all the Europe.

Almost four hundred students graduated the school since 1996. Every year the school has about four hundred students divided in groups according to different musical education programs: primary (grades 1-3), secondary (grades 4-7), long-term purposeful (grades 8-11) or professional development (grades 9-12). There are two departments: choral singing or jazz singing (grades 1-7), several methodical groups of: choirs, instrument playing, piano and concertmasters, voice development.

In the school all the creative life is turning around choirs. Choir is the main thing for all of the students. According to a long time teacher, first headmaster deputy in educational affairs, Lina Jukonienė: "choir department is the spine of the school

and all the activities in the school turn around it". Choirs are regular participants of Lithuanian Song Celebrations, various concert programs and projects.

Choir department has three hundred and a half students, who are divided in six choirs according to the age: first, second, third grade choir, junior choir (grades 4-5), junior choir (grades 6-7) and girls choir (grades 8-12). The initial singing skills are developed by teachers of primary choir school: N. Timofejeva, J. Dirgėlaitė, D. Mickevičiūtė and S. Balčiūnaitė. V. Grušnius, S. Dūdėnienė and D. Petručionytė are the concertmasters who accompany the choirs of first, second and third grades. E. Jaraminienė leads the Juniors choir (grades 4- 5) since 2010, concertmaster - P. Jaraminas. Junior choir is a prizewinner in two international competitions: sacral music competition "Cantate Domino" (2009) and choral music festival-competition in Eišiškės (2012).

Junior choir (grades 6-7), since 2010 led by teacher A. Steponavičiūtė Zupkauskienė, concertmistress S. Dūdėnienė, distinguishes itself with beautiful and creative activities. The choir is a constant participant in National Song Celebrations, international festivals and competitions, a prizewinner in: competitions of Song Celebration (1997), international children and youth choirs festival "Dainų Versmė" (1998), II international choir music festival "Klasikai Vaikams" (1998), international festival in Kijev (2000), golden medal in XXXVI international song festival-competition Svátky Písní Olomouce (Czech Republic) (2008), first prize in IX Europe G. Zelioli youth choirs festival-competition in Lecco (Italy) (2010), first prize in International Choir Contest „31 Festival Internacional de Música de Cantonigròs“ (Spain) (2013), participated in international choir festival "Cantemus" (Lithuania), had concerts in Germany (2012, 2014), Estonia, Italy. Choir took part B.Britten's "War Requiem", A. Honegger's "Joan of Arc at the Stake", staging of the operas - G. Puccini's "La Bohème", P. Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker", J. Bizet „Carmen“. Junior choir cherish beautiful friendship with women choir "Liepos" - collectives together participated in concerts with St. Christopher Chamber Orchestra.

Colorful, wide and intense are activities of girls choir, led by teacher J. Vaitkevičienė since 1997, concertmistress E. Kasteckaitė - Strimaitienė. Choir has participated and won in many national and international choir festivals or competitions: "Mes - Lietuvos Vaikai", "Džiūgaukim, Alleluja" (2012); "Dainų Versmė" (1998, 2003), festival of Johannes Brahms (2003), "Praha Cantat" (2004), " Carskoselskaja Osenj" (2004), 26th youth choir festival in Celje (Slovenia) (2005), "Okras Mir Zvukami" (2006), festival of S. Šimkus (2007), "Spivaje Kiiv Vesniany" (2008), "Festival Cantonigros" (2010), festival in Tolosa (Spain) (2010), "Musica Religiosa" (2012). In 2009 and 2014 won the first prize in the contest "Lietuvos Balsai" (project of National Television of Lithuania). Girls represented Lithuania and the school in the "Week of J. S. Bach" in Erfurt, "Essentia Baltica" in Germany, several events of new members of European Union in Dublin" and in the choirs’ concert “Europe sings” in Vienna. In 2004 Lithuanian Folk Culture Centre awarded girls choir with "Golden Bird" for rich concert activities.

Conducted by most celebrated conductors J. Domarkas, S. Sondeckis, G. Rinkevičius, R. Šervenikas, M. Pitrėnas, M. Staškus, T. Kaljuste (Sweden), M. Barkauskas, M. Jauniškis, the choir took part in A.Vivaldi’s or. “Judith’s triumphing”, Sh. Brixi's "Magnificat", A. Vivaldi's "Gloria", L. W. Beethoven's "Meeresstille und glückliche Fahrt", Fr. Schubert's "Mass As- dur", G. Mahler's Symphony No 3, F. Poulenc's "Gloria", C. Debussy's "Syrenes", A. Part's "In principio". Choir has released a compact disc.

It has been almost fifty years, since "Liepaitės" girls’ choir was founded. This half-century can be divided into two periods: first one, 1964-1992 m., girls’ choir studio of Republican Palace of Culture of Trade Unions, which undoubtedly had an important role in the Lithuanian cultural life of children's choirs, and second period - from 1993, when the choir singing school was founded. Developed and continuously improved children's music education, based on choir singing system, teamed enthusiastic group of teachers. Today grown “liepaitės” are counted in hundreds.

They are connected by love for the music, song, values of life and the school.
