Algirdas Vizgirda studied at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and the P.Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow. He also studied at the Paris national Conservatoire with world-famous flautists Christian Larde and Alain Marion.
Yet being a student he played in jazz music quintet with the V.Ganelinas, O.Molokojedovas, G.Balutis. Jazz quintet become a laureate of two Tallinn‘s jazz festivals. In 1971 in the first Lithuanian jazz festival in Elektrenai composition by Vizgirda „All depends of mood“ was declared the best composition. Since 1970 to 1977 A.Vizgirda was an artist of Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and a leader of the flutist group. From 1981 was a member of the qiuintet of wooden wind instruments. Since 1971 A Vizgirda teaches at the Lithuanian Academy of Music. His students works at the mains Lithuanian Symphony orchestras, at the conservatoires and music schools, others continue studies at the Paris and Germany conservatoires. From 1988 Vizgirda is a Professor of Lithuanian Academy of Music.


Vizgirda has been actively collaborating with the Lithuanian chamber orchestra, Ciurlionis quartet, chorus Aidija, Polifonija, pianists P.Stravinskas and E.Karcub, harpsichordist G.Lukšaitė-Mrazkova, violinists T.Grindenko, I.Pikaizen, R.Katilius, J.Tankevičius, A.Vainiūnaitė, flutists V.Gelgotas, V.Višinskas, J.Youn (Estija), P.-I. Artaud ir G.Bourgogne (Prancūzija), oboists J.-L. Capezzali (Prancūzija), M.Beckamn (Olandija).
Since 1988 he has played in the famous chamber music ensemble Baltic Trio. A CD by Baltic Trio was brought out by Warner Bross recording studio in the USA in 1997. The most recent CD by Vizgirda and Giedre Luksaite-Mrazkova, aprofessor and harpsichord player at the Prague Music Academy. “All Bach’s Sonatas for flute”, came out in 2001.


Music from various epochs of various styles can be heard at solo recitals by Vizgirda. Vizgirda has given many suuccessful concerts in  Western Europe and the Scandinavian countries. Critics describe his playing as an expression of musicianship, the expressive sound of the flute, subtle artistic taste and pronounced artistry. He has been invited to give cources in the flute in France, Belgium, the Czech Republic and Latvia. Vizgirda was awarded the Order of Gediminas of the Republic of Lithuania for his work for musical culture in 1998. In 2006, he was a winner of the Lithuanian National Prize.


Vizgirda is a soloist with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, and the art director of the Musica Humana ensemble. He is one of the most accomplished Lithuanian musicians.
